Gordon College

Learning

All the teachers here know my name. They know all the students’ names. And they do generally care for you in your personal life, and your academic life.

The classrooms are like 30 max, and you really get like a one on one with the teachers and they offer advice rather than like a classroom with 300 students.

You can choose when you want to do certain classes. Like next semester I’ll be taking my maths and sciences, but for my first semester I was able to just take relaxed classes that I enjoyed so that I could get used to what college life was.

I get a better education here rather than, than a big school because of the small class size, and because of the dedication of the teachers.

Your professor gets to know you on a personal level, and they understand that you are a student and that you are trying to do well and as long as, as you do your part they’ll definitely out – step outside their boundaries and do theirs.

I feel like I can come to them when I have problems.

The professors here are really good. You, you kind of get the sense that they are your big brother or big sister.

Lots of the professors love what they are doing, so that makes learning even better because they, they really do care and they are compassionate and they are passionate as well about what they are teaching, so that makes learning easier.

I don’t think I’ve had a bad professor yet.

It’s a great environment to be able to learn in. It keeps you focused.

To Do

There is all kinds of things to do on campus. We have everything from going to see the plays from the theatrical classes.

We have comedians that come in.

Sometimes they have concerts.

They have dances for like Halloween and they have massage people come down for finals when you are stressed out.

You can go to the athletic center and there’s basketball.

There’s weight lifting, there’s the swimming pool, there is water aerobics.

There are intramurals. We have soccer, wrestling, volleyball.

You’ve got pool, air hockey, you know, the lounges.

Oh, you have ping-pong.

Around Gordon College you usually just hang out with friends.  I actually have some friends that rent a house on a little small pond so we’ll go sit out by the pond and go fishing.

The campus is relaxing.  There’s a lot of open spaces where you – if you need to sit and go away and study.

There’s just cool places to hang out, like downtown Barnesville.  You get discounts for being a Gordon student, American Pie, Big Chick, Georgia South.

Big Chick is a big deal in Barnesville, the best fried chicken you’ve ever had.

The best thing to order there, they’ve got a two-piece thigh and a large sweet tea, that’s great.

I like to hang out at a place called the Red Rooster, it’s a coffee house.  Just a good place for friends to get together.

Red Rooster has the really good frappuccinos.

It’s not far away from the big city life either, so it’s really strategically located.  It’s wonderfully located.  You get the quiet atmosphere, you get the wonderful country air, but then when you want some excitement Atlanta is just like right down the road.

So there’s lots to do here.

Get Started

Gordon has a reputation for excellence.

It’s a very good place to get started.

It’s a great school to come and get the feel for college before you transfer to a major university or enter a program here.

There’s been a program at Gordon for the past 10 years, because my mom went here and my sister went here, and I, I’ve been here for about 3 years now.

This is a great place to start off and the teachers are, are good and it’s pretty much a good transfer from high school to college because smaller classrooms and you basically have the attention of your teachers instead of being in a larger 60, 70-person class.

You are a person, you are a face, you are somebody that people know and they get to care about and get to respect them.

I’ve learned 10 times more than what I could ever learn somewhere else.

Gordon College, like I said, is just a great place to go, and I think everybody should start off at a college like Gordon College.

I don’t know where I’d be without it.  It’s just a wonderful, exciting experience and Gordon rocks.

Dream Jobs

My dreams are to teach theater.

To become a registered nurse.

To be a Broadway actress.

Become a cardiovascular surgeon.

To become a criminal lawyer.

My dream job is to be a dentist.

To teach deaf children.

To join the military.

I want to be the owner and manager of my own dinner theater chain.

I want to work at the Smithsonian Museum of American History in Washington. D.C.

Come to Gordon.

It’s time to get started.

Dorm Life

I live on campus so I know a lot of people in my dorm rooms.

All of my friends in the dorm are just amazing. They are just the funnest people to be around.

One time last year with the World Series we all just crammed in one room and cheered on a team, it was great.

We just hang out, 10 of us, we just go into one dorm room and just chill out, party, do whatever.

All my roommates are very nice, very respectful.  This has literally become my second home.

I have 3 roommates, but we each have our separate rooms, one common area and a kitchen.  Pretty much you have a sense of you are living in your own space.

Some people brought rugs, and I brought my television.  You get to know a lot of the people and you just become a close community.

I love going to Gordon.
